Corruption in Canada? A look at the dilemma over the SNC Lavalin corruption trial
The Liberal Party’s dilemma over the SNC Lavalin corruption trial is riveting news theatre.
How individuals interpret what is right, and what is wrong, seems to be at the at the core of it. The process has reminded me of the New Testament teacher, Paul who wrote to a Roman community whose own corruption would dissolve its society.
Paul wrote that the law of right and wrong isn’t always written on paper, but in human hearts. The heart, as our guide, is a tricky thing; and we saw that play out in the differences of opinions among Liberal leaders arguing over SNC Lavalin.
Looking to scripture, it says we should help each other do the best thing – “as iron sharpens iron.”
Also on the show – the plight of migrant workers. They tend to our fields, put fresh fruit and veggies on our tables. They’re taxed as they work, pay rent and food while they’re in Canada, but they have few rights. Three weeks ago, 43 trafficked Mexican workers who were living in squalor as they worked cleaning resorts and hotels were rescued by police in Barrie and Collingwood who called the operation, “modern day slavery.” Their story shines a light on how corruption at all levels impacts everyone.
