Couple Sentenced in Selling Their Own Daughter at Age 13
Former Bountiful, B.C. couple, Brandon James Blackmore, 71, and ex-wife, Emily Ruth Gail Blackmore, 60, were sentenced today for trafficking their underage daughter.
Brandon James Blackmore, will spend 1 year in jail with 18 months probation.
Emily Ruth Gail Blackmore, will serve a term of 7 months in jail and 18 months probation.
The couple were convicted earlier this year, for taking their daughter, who was 13 years of age, at the time, to Colorado City, AZ to be married off to Warren Jeffs, polygamous leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
In 2011, Jeffs was sentenced to life in prison plus 20 years for sexually assaulting two girls he said were his “spiritual wives.”
Sources say, Jeffs, using God’s name, told Brandon Blackmore, to bring their daughter to him, saying that she “belonged to him.” Jeffs had more than 80 wives at the time.
Justice Paul Pearlman says prison time is the right thing to do. “In my view a term of imprisonment is warranted in this case,” he said.
Pearlman added that through this case, a message is needed to be sent to other potential communities like the FLDS community.
Brandon and Emily Gail Blackmore, attended the Fundamentalist Mormon Church, located in southeastern Bountiful B.C., at the time of the crime, where it’s a common practice to have multiple wives, sources say.
