Context: Tough Times (Ep. 1529)

Recession, deficits and thousands of jobs lost. Context explores what it means to find hope while living in tough economic times.

LORNA’S WRAP

Who can deny that we are in the grip of money? We need it to survive. And into that reality comes a curious task of believing in the God that actually commands people to both work for their food, and to stop all work one day a week. The commanded Sabbath rest of the Old Testament was a built in trust mechanism. A one day at a time rule on provision. So I think we better go to the bank with this Biblical promise from God;
“Your Heavenly Father already knows all your needs, and will give you all you need from day to day if you live for Him and make the Kingdom of God your primary concern. So don’t worry about tomorrow.” Those are the words of Jesus in Matthew 6:33.
60,000 jobs related to oil drilling were lost in Alberta and Eastern BC in the past four months; a little bit of practical kindness for the unemployed, with those words from Jesus, is going to be needed.
