Context: PTSD, Depression, Anxiety, and an Overloaded Mental Health System (Ep. 1604)

Mental health issues were once cloaked in secrecy, but it seems now, especially during Mental Health Week, that we are “safe” to “talk” about depression, suicide, and a whole host of mental health issues and disorders that affect many people and the ones who love them.

 But is talking enough?

It is a start.

Still, there are currently 500,000 youth in Canada on a waiting list for treatment; Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in the Canadian military has doubled since 2002, and the Canadian Mental Health Association says, “In any given year, 1 in 5 people will personally experience a mental health problem or illness.”

But the system in place that is meant to treat these issues is broken and overloaded.

Context reports on some of the courageous people who have gone public with their own tragic stories of PTSD; along with a pastor struggling with life in the midst of depression — and the possible solutions various mental health therapies introduce — and the power to overcome through determination, courage, and God’s grace.
