Healing from sexual abuse within the church and sports organizations(Episode 1817)

In an era where coverups, lies and abuse of power are called out, it’s time for it to stop – and for those abused within the church to begin to heal.

Pope Francis’s answer to the history of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church is to call an emergency summit for the protection of minors in Rome.

And in the U.S., more than 700 people have been abused by leaders of the Southern Baptist Convention since 1998.

But it’s not just religious institutions. Here in Canada, a CBC exclusive investigation found 226 coaches in Canada have been convicted of abusing more than 600 victims in the past 20 years.

One of those victims, former NHL star Theo Fleury, speaks with us about life-long trauma of being sexually abused by his coach.

Where do we go from here? How do we heal from the horrors of sexual abuse?
