Migrant children living in tragic conditions at U.S.-Migrant border
The Associated Press reports that the U.S.-Mexico border detention centres are at crisis levels.
250 infants, children, and teens are being held in tragic conditions – with inadequate food, water, and sanitation.
U.S. lawyers witnessed the inhuman conditions and interviewed children “separated from their parents or other adult caregivers including aunts and uncles.”
Prof. Warren Binford, Law Professor at Willamette University describes the conditions she witnessed:
CBS reports the House Democrats passed a $4.6 billion bill from the Republican-led Senate to help the migrants. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said in a letter to her colleagues she was disappointed the Senate opposed the original bill put forward by the House, but added:
“The children come first. At the end of the day, we have to make sure that the resources needed to protect the children are available. Therefore, we will not engage in the same disrespectful behavior that the Senate did in ignoring our priorities. In order to get resources to the children fastest, we will reluctantly pass the Senate bill.”
A shocking photo of a Salvadoran father and his daughter who drowned trying to cross the Rio Grande has gone viral. In his weekly audience address, Pope Francis praised Mexico for being so “welcoming to migrants.” Pope Francis donated $500, 000 to help the migrants in Mexico.
