Missionary pilot dies in plane crash delivering COVID-19 test kits to remote area of Indonesia
“Joyce was a light reflecting Jesus, and she will be deeply missed,” ~Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF)
Joyce Lin was 40 years old and living her dream as a missionary with the MAF.
The M.I.T. graduate served as a pilot and information technology specialist. At the time of her death, she was delivering COVID-19 rapid test kits to a remote village in Indonesia.
Joyce worked for the MAF, which for 75 years has served in remote areas of the world delivering food, supplies, and resources to some of the most isolated villages not accessible by roads.
On May 12, Lin was on a routine flight to the Papau region of Indonesia with a plane filled with COVID-19 test kits and school supplies when two minutes into the flight Joyce sent out a distress call, seconds later her plane plummeted into Lake Sentani.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
