Ontario announces a new needs-based autism program
The Ontario government has announced plans for a needs-based autism program, while keeping the budget for the file at $600 million.
The government says the new program should be ready by April 2020. Those receiving therapy under the new system will receive a 6-month extension while the new program is rolled out.
Marg Spoelstra, from Autism Ontario says a national strategy would actually be the most beneficial:
“We want parents to experience – no matter where they live in this country – that as Canadians, they can get the supports that they need.”
Spoelstra is co-chair of a newly formed Autism Advisory Panel for the government of Ontario.
