Some Ontario pastors petition to re-open their churches by June

As most provinces across Canada ease into Phase 1 of reopening businesses and organizations – one group of pastors feel they have been left out of the process altogether.

Over 400 pastors across Ontario have signed a petition to open their church doors. While not all churches agree with re-opening so soon, two pastors, Joe Boot and Aaron Rock speak with Maggie John about an open letter to premier Doug Ford asking him to allow churches to reopen by June.

On Saturday May, 16 the premier made an amendment to the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act by allowing ‘Drive-in church meetings,’ a decision that came almost 24 hours after a virtual round table conversation with denominational leaders and pastors – but for pastors Boot and Rock, they say, it’s not enough, and they want their doors open completely.
