Watch: FAITH UNDER FIRE – Sri Lanka 8 p.m. on YES TV – and Facebook LIVE
A special two-hour show featuring Lorna Dueck and a film crew who journey through Sri Lanka after the Easter Sunday terrorists bombs ripped through three churches, and three luxury hotels.
More than 250 people lost their lives when nine Islamic extremists blew themselves up in eight separate blasts throughout the ancient island nation.
Lorna talks with pastors, priests, imams, and politicians about the terrorist attacks and asks: as multi-faith harmony hangs in the balance – can religious harmony return to Sri Lanka?
Also on the program, Nobel Peace Prize nominee, Callum Macrae talks about his film, No Fire Zone that alerted the world to war crimes being carried out in Sri Lanka. Miriam Young of the U.S. Counsel on Sri Lanka tells why the current bomb warnings from the U.S. went ignored.
Lorna visits St. Sebastian’s church in Negombo that was severely damaged in one explosion, with more than 100 parishioners killed. Sobering images from inside show blood on the pews, and the building’s ceiling shattered – a Christ icon, now encased in plexiglass, also bears the blood of congregants, and shrapnel. At the entrance, a large square protected on the floor where the suicide bomber detonated his bomb.
There were also many deaths at the site of the first blast in St Anthony’s, a hugely popular shrine in Kochchikade, a district of Colombo.
Join us on Saturday August 24 at 8:00 p.m. ET on YES TV – and Facebook LIVE as YES TV CEO and Context host and Executive Producer, Lorna Dueck shares stories of tragedy and hope in Sri Lanka.
